The guidelines are compiled in accordance with the requirements of the curriculum and the program of the discipline “Metallurgical Materials Science” and include all the necessary information on the implementation of practical classes of the course. The guidelines set out the procedure for performing practical exercises, calculation work on the course “Metallurgical Materials Science” according to the list of the proposed program in this discipline. In particular, the choice of temperature for quenching steel of a given grade, a description of the transformations occurring during this process. Drawing a diagram of the state of iron-iron carbide, specifying the structural components in all areas of the diagram, describing transformations and constructing cooling curves (using the phase rule) for alloys with a given carbon content, etc. A significant amount of data on the production modes of thermal, chemical-thermal and thermomechanical processing was obtained by the authors as a result of internships at enterprises such as LLP FerrumVtor, Karaganda Foundry. At these plants, the authors studied the microstructure of pre-eutectoid and post-eutectoid steels and cast irons subjected to various types of processing.
