The textbook “Fundamentals of Geology” is written according to the educational program “Mining specialist”. It includes “Dynamic Geology”, “Geology and exploration of deposits of solid minerals”, “Engineering geology of deposits”. The first part examines the general provisions and significance of geology, its subject, forms and methods of research, general information about the Earth, its place in the world space, the creation and parameters of the Earth, structure and composition, and geophysical fields. The Earth’s crust, its structure and types, chemical, mineral and petrographic composition; Geological (endogenous and exogenous) processes are described; the forms of sedimentary rock deposition, stratified and disjunctive faults, and man-made changes in the Earth’s crust are described.
The second part deals with minerals and their deposits, natural conditions and genetic types of deposits, industrial types of deposits: metallic, non-metallic, combustible and man-made minerals. Exploration and geological and industrial assessment of deposits are described.
The third part is devoted to the engineering and geological conditions of field development. The conditions of rational and safe use of deposits: the location of groundwater, the physical and mechanical properties of rocks and fracturing, the forecast of rock stability in mining conditions are described using the example of the Karaganda coal deposit and the Zhezkazgan copper deposit.
